Feeling super overwhelmed with wedding planning and starting to lose track of what your dream wedding was going to be? This is an all too common dilemma for couples and can lead to stress, ballooning budgets, and fighting. Listen, I know what you’re going through! I’m planning my own wedding right now Kiss My Tulle and sometimes I think that I’m losing my wedding planning mind! But, then I discovered THE way to help The Boy and I stay on track with our wedding focus – a mission statement.

Common in corporations and non-profits, a mission statement acts as a way for a company to communicate its goals and values to clients and employees. A mission statement is also a great way to remind a company of the direction it hopes to follow and gives guidelines on how to get there. According to MissionStatements.com, "A mission statement defines in a paragraph or so any entity's reason for existence. It embodies its philosophies, goals, ambitions and mores. Any entity that attempts to operate without a mission statement runs the risk of wandering through the world without having the ability to verify that it is on its intended course."

If a mission statement is intended to help as a reminder of the direction of goals - why not create a mission statement for your wedding to help you stay focused? The act of writing down the exact goals and objectives for your wedding helps you to really concentrate on what's important (and what's not).

Here's an easy starting point for creating your own mission statement, simply fill-in-the-blanks:

I want my wedding to feel like [this] and I want it to look like [this] and I want to feel [this] after it is over.

For example: "I want my wedding to feel like a party and I want it to look like it an elegant garden tea and I want to feel elated after it is over.

Put your mission statement in your wedding planner, on a Post-it on your computer, or taped to the fridge. When you start to feel overwhelmed, confused, or stressed out - read your mission statement. Let it calm you and direct you on your ultimate goals.

The point of a wedding mission statement is to help you remember that this is the wedding we want, these are our goals, and consider how our decisions can help us meet these objectives.
