Wedding Table Designs

I met the lovely ladies of Dogwood Party Rentals early on when I started On the Go Bride and have really enjoyed watching them grow. Their insight into the wedding industry has been amazing and I always enjoy posting guest blog posts from them. Below is a fun how-to on wedding table design and creating your own tablescapes!

Perfect Setting

You've been pinning for months. Your boards are beautiful. And now it's time to make some decisions! You want a gorgeous altar, an adorable guest book table, amazing signage and a fun and fantastic dessert bar. What about the dining tables? If you think about it, your guests will spend a lot of time at their table. These tables are a great place to add beautiful details that enhance your overall design.

Last month we were challenged to design, not one, but four tables for the Firehouse Bridal Showcase in old Sacramento. We were lucky enough to have the amazing floral designs and creative input of Jackie's Flowers of Elk Grove and the dreamy linens available at La Tavola in Sacramento. It was a blast collaborating and we loved the results!

As you begin to plan your table décor, keep these elements in mind:

Style

Is this a formal affair in a hotel ballroom or a rustic outdoor celebration? This will dictate many of your choices from flowers to linens, to table shapes and chair styles. If it's outdoors your linens will probably be more casual, maybe you will do away with linens altogether and run craft paper down the middle of wood farm tables. If you are a glamorous girl having that swanky over-the-top bash, have a blast mixing satin and sequins!

Color

Color is so important. It sets a tone. It reflects a couple's personality. It is also a unifying thread that can be found throughout your entire wedding. As you plan your tables, remember you are not limited to the color of your bridesmaid dresses! If they're wearing coral, you might not need coral napkins, flowers and linens. Consider gray or taupe linens accented with coral and pink flowers and napkins.

Scale

This is about getting the proportions of your centerpieces right. They can be large or small, but they have to be the right scale. Too large and they'll overpower the table, too small and they'll be underwhelming.  You wouldn’t hang a single 5 x 7 picture over your couch.  The negative space on your table (that big empty circle in the middle) needs one big focal point or a grouping of several elements to look complete.

Details!

Chargers, candles, votives, place cards, menus, favors, napkin rings, etc. are the details that add color and texture.  They also reinforce your style. Having a nautical wedding? Add anchors to your menus and place cards or a bold striped ribbon for napkin rings. All these details are like the accessories that make a great outfit amazing.
